STC packages for your Cherokee
If the engine on your PA-28-140 or PA-28-151 is getting tired and it’s time to do something about it, you have a few options to consider. You can get a factory rebuilt engine from Lycoming, an overhaul from an engine shop or install a brand-new engine. You can also take your engine to RAM Aircraft to have one of its engine STCs installed.
RAM Aircraft, based in Waco, Tex. was founded in 1976 and has spent the intervening years honing the craft of overhauling and improving upon aircraft engines. RAM currently offers a few STCs for the Cherokee PA-28-140 and PA-28-151, including the Maximum Power STC Package and The New Difference Package.
The Maximum Power package offers two kit options, both of which provide an increase from 150 hp to 160 hp. Both kits include installation of pistons, wrist pins and ring sets and include the carburetor. Kit A includes new cylinder assemblies, while Kit B uses your existing cylinders and replaces existing pistons, pins and ring sets. No changes to the crankcase are required. Engine and airframe STC documentation are included. Applicable engines include Lycoming O-320-E2A, -E2D and -E3D.
But if your engine is really tired or you just want the peace of mind that comes with a new engine, you should opt for The New Difference package. This package replaces the 140’s O-320-E2A or O-320-E2D or 151’s O-320-E2D with a new Lycoming O-320-D3G. Also included is a Sensenich 74DM6-0-60 propeller. You get additional horsepower, with a new engine and propeller. No “time since” logbooks, and no yellow tags.
