Hi Steve;
I don't have one of these in front of me, but I think it works like this;
The loop assy (p/n 63037-00) screws into the middle nut plate in "plate assy, door latch" (p/n 69738-00)
The 69738 is on the upper side of the channel (p/n 66968 or 66969 per serial number) and appears to be reinforced on the inner side by the "channel, door latch" (p/n 69740-00 or -02).
Unfortunately I don't see how the "plate, door latch" (p/n 76365) is part of this assembly. Perhaps once you pull the headliner back it will become evident after a visual inspection.
I'm not sure how the the "plate, door latch" (p/n 69738-00) is held in position. It may be slightly adjustable to fine tune the position of the hook in the door and secured by the two screws that hold the "plate-Door Latch" (p/n 79234) in position.

I believe Piper issued a service kit to install the upper door latch on earlier model Cherokees. I'm searching for the details of the kit because it may have a better explanation on how to install the loop assembly and reinforcements that my guesses. When I find it, I'll post the details.

Hi Kent,
I found a guy who was chopping up an old PA28 and he cut the part out for me. Cost me a 30 pack of Busch Light cans. lol
The only part you actually need is the nut that the loop screws into. It’s not in the parts manual.  It’s basically a nut with wings. The wings on my nut broke off. The good news is you just have to spread the part that the nut fits in and then close it again. Problem is you can’t just order the nut. Thanks Steve

Hi Kent,

I sent all the info to you on a parts request. Yes, I have a complete parts manual. On the parts request I included a picture. Thanks for any help locating this.

Steve

Hey Steven,
Can you provide me the year, model, and serial number of your Piper?  If you do not have a complete parts catalog I will get you one.  Should you not find the part number there please forward a photo and I will ask my contact at Piper and a couple of airframe supporters.
Thanks.
Kent
