Hi Bruce,
I’m glad it worked out. I agree with your conclusion that putting an primer system part on top of the engine is non sensical.
Thanks for sharing your experience,
Steve
Turbo Arrow IV Fuel Leak and Primer Critical Service Bulletin
-
I removed my primer diverted valve per the SB. It had started to leak around the seals showing some blue stains. That primer worked really well in getting started. I changed my procedure after it was removed. I prime with mixture cutoff and throttle full forward watching the fuel flow gauge to see it peak. Then set full rich and crack throttle. This seems to work well.
Hi Robert;
Thanks for the heads up on this issue. You sure do make my job easy when you include pictures and the applicable service information from Continental.
It seems to me that installing an electrically controlled valve forward of the firewall in the fuel system is making the system ripe for Murphy.
Apparently Continental also now thinks so too.
Looks like an easy fix.
Thanks and Happy Flying
SteveFound a serious fuel leak during a ground run up after our panel upgrade. It was the diverter valve. The hoses are pressurized metered fuel in and out.
The schematic is a clip from the Critical Safety Bulletin Continental issued. I found the parts needed to remove it, ordered them, and they will be here Tuesday. Continental covers the parts and 2 hours labor. I had heard about removing the primer assembly but didn’t think much of it until this happened. See photo. The leak drops straight onto the cylinder fins.
So, for future reference here’s CSB 19-01a: https://www.tcmlink.com/pdf2/CSB19-01A.pdf
