Avidyne Announces Integrated Wireless Connectivity Hardware for IFD540 and IFD440 FMS/GPS/NAV/COM
Avidyne’s innovative new IFD540s & IFD440s include hardware to support both WiFi and Bluetooth® connectivity at no additional charge.
Oshkosh, WI – Thursday, July 24, 2014 –
Avidyne Corporation, a leading provider of integrated avionics and safety systems for general aviation aircraft, announced today that their new IFD540 and IFD440 FMS/GPS/NAV/COM systems include integrated WiFi and Bluetooth® capability for wireless connectivity in the cockpit. Activation of these capabilities will be forthcoming in future software releases.
“From the outset of our new panel-mounted avionics stack development, we were keenly aware of wireless connectivity in the cockpit as an emerging technology,” said Patrick Herguth, Avidyne’s Chief Operating Officer. “We decided early on to integrate WiFi and Bluetooth transceivers and antenna into the base configuration of the IFD540 and IFD440, eliminating the added complexity of extra boxes, while reducing installation costs.”
“Having access to both WiFi and Bluetooth capability in the aircraft gives pilots and passengers maximum breadth of connectivity,” said Dan Schwinn, Avidyne’s President and CEO. “With throughput rates of up to 3 Mbps, Bluetooth provides terrific point-to-point connectivity for specific devices and App-based tasks, while our WiFi provides a higher-bandwidth connection of up to 65 Mbps for more robust purposes including laptops and browser-based connectivity.”

Pricing and Availability
The IFD540 with GPS/NAV/COM/FMS and 10-Watt VHF transmit power, plus integrated WiFi & Bluetooth, has a plug & play retail price of $16,995. The IFD440 with 10-Watt VHF transmit power, plus integrated WiFi & Bluetooth, has a plug & play retail price of $14,995. 16 Watt transmit power upgrade is available for $4,995. Install kits and antennas sold separately.
The IFD540 is certified and is available now.
